The 4.1 Desktop installer, when creating the partitions, suggests the type "Linux" for the first partition it creates and suggests to mount it at /. That's OK. But the type suggested for the second created partition is again "Linux". That's bad. Remember what the documentation says -- http://ftp.altlinux.org/pub/distributions/ALTLinux/4.1/Desktop/4.1.0/docs/hd_planning/index.html#ID.._%D0%9D%D0%B5%D0%BE%D0%B1%D1%85%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%B8%D0%BC%D1%8B%D0%B5_%D1%80%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BB%D1%8B : Минимальное количество разделов, которые необходимы Linux для работы — два. Первый — для корневой файловой системы, второй — для области подкачки. So, adhering to this, the second created partition should be suggested to be swap (of type "Linux Swap", consequently). This misbehavior leads to the situation that newbies install their ALTLinux systems without swap (if they are doing this on a computer with Windows, where they have to manually shrink the Windows partitions, hence they are working in the manual mode).
