Аутентификация в SMTP не работает, если не включить POP3 сервер.

Аутентификацию осуществляет dovecot. Неудивительно, что его требуется включить.

Для того, чтобы осуществлять аутентификацию с помощью dovecot, нужно включить не pop3, а совсем другую часть dovecot.  Цитирую dovecot.conf:

# Protocols we want to be serving: imap imaps pop3 pop3s
# If you only want to use dovecot-auth, you can set this to "none".
#protocols = imap imaps pop3 pop3s

Просьба исправить побыстрее.
