git.alt doesn't allow to store the special topgit refs directly -- https://bugzilla.altlinux.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30718 .

But if topgit is taught to read and populate its refs for something like .gear/tags (maintained by "gear-update-tag --all"), then a remote gear repo can serve as a remote for topgit.
